Iranian Tobacco Co holds a monopoly in tobacco in Iran and controls all tobacco-related activities, although global players held significant shares. British American Tobacco and Japan Tobacco were the leading global players in Iran in 2014, with a combined volume share much higher than Iranian Tobacco Co. Thanks to agreements between Iranian Tobacco Co and the global manufacturers, the latter had a better chance of growing their business in Iran as import procedures were eased. They also used Iranian Tobacco Co facilities for the domestic production of their own products.
